New Project Alert!

Hi! I am so excited to share that I’ve been working on my next 3D animated short film! “Eye Of The Needle” is a 3D animated short film about a hard working tomato pin cushion. When walking around the sewing table, he notices a lot of pins. He becomes extremely motivated and cleans up pins to the song “Eye Of The Tiger”. Satisfied with his hard work, he smiles, until pins start to fall back onto the desk, restarting his progress.

This image is a still frame from my newest short film in progress!

The tomato pin cushion character was modeled from scratch and is animated by a custom rig based off of a blender rigify rig. Fine tuning this rig with all the weight painting was an interesting challenge. I ran into some unique problems for this character’s rig because he is not particularly human shaped. I have been finding that a lot of tutorials out there on the internet revolve around weight painting for human based shapes. Solving these problems caused by his cute overall shape pushed me to think more outside the box with how I was approaching his rig and weight painting. :)

Everything in this animation from the wood textured desk the tomato pin cushion is standing on to the sewing scissors in the background were 3D modeled, textured, and particularly placed by me to display a cozy sewing work space. This short film is going to be completely rendered in the cycles render engine in blender. I have been learning how to use volumetric lighting to create some very warm and comforting lighting. This cute little tomato pin cushion character is ready to take on the world (or more accurately take on the task of cleaning up some pins) in this adorable and friendly animation.
I will be sure to make another blog post for this animation when it is complete. Stay tuned for more updates! :D
