HIHIHI! I have made lots of progress on “The Great Pasta Heist” these past few weeks! I have a polished animatic and TONS of In Progress Show things happening! Now that the story is in a better spot, the kitchen set is getting so close to matching my original vision. With the kitchen set design finishing up, I have started to focus more time on the character models and textures.
Getting the Pasta’s textures to match both my concept sketches and work with the kitchen set lighting has been a struggle. I keep running into roadblocks with the textures glowing in a nuclear way. For some odd reason that I am yet to determine, both pasta’s textures keep glowing in the wrong areas. I originally intended for the thinnest parts of my characters Bowtie and Elbow to glow around the edges. I had accomplished this look in a test file. I quickly discovered that when I linked or appended both pastas in the kitchen set file, they summoned a nuclear glow in the center of their faces. To combat this quirk, I started to experiment with their materials. I decided I like the glow so I incorporated it to the whole material instead of just their faces. I was able to turn the glow on the edges into a slightly darker color and I put a subtle glow on their entire bodies.
Another task I have been working on is to edit my shot list. My super epic organized and STUNNING shot list is taking form on google sheets. If you are at all interested in seeing the in progress animatic for “The Great Pasta Heist” send me an email! My email is augustpackard.art@gmail.com (I will even share the super secret after credits scene that is super secret) Next up for “The Great Pasta Heist” is to start up the character rigs and to finalize the kitchen set design with little details to make it feel more lived in.
“The Great Pasta Heist” has already come so far from the original tiny sketch in my pocket sketchbook. Looking back to the beginning of the summer when I thought up these adorable little pastas, the project has evolved so much! I can’t wait to start animation tests with my character rigs very soon. Stay tuned for more updates! :D
